Welcome to Bier Halle!

We opened in October 1999. Under the leadership of legendary publican Colin Barr and now managed by son, Joshua, the family run Bier Halle has developed into a Glasgow institution securing its position as one of the most popular bars in Glasgow.

The addition of our ‘Beer Garden’ (‘bier garten’ to us) has proved a huge hit with customers. Situated right on our doorstep, it spans all the way along Gordon Street to Buchanan Street. When we do get a rare bit of sun there’s no better spot to grab a beer in the city centre and do a bit of people watching.

Inside our underground bar we are a contemporary beer hall with Czech and German influences. Serving one of the largest collections of international and craft beers that Glasgow has to offer you are sure to find something that suits your taste. We are also equally known for our famous ‘2 for 1’ pizzas not only for their value but also our unique style of thin and crispy bases with original toppings that you won’t find anywhere else – we’ve been told it’s some of the best pizza in Glasgow! As well as our vegetarian options we have now added vegan and Gluten Free additions to our menu meaning there is something for everyone.

Music is another important aspect of the Bier Halle experience, we curate all of our own playlists in house and have DJ’s playing every Friday and Saturday from 9-12 helping you start the weekend the right way!

Food & Drinks

The star of the Bier Halle is ultimately our food and drink selections, such an impressive array of international beers has never united under one roof before (and the food’s not bad too)!

Drinks

Biers, biers and more beers…

We boast one of the city’s widest selection of beers from around the world: Belgian Trappists to American Craft, pilsners to IPAs, local craft beers to international brews – we have something for everyone with beers from over 30 different countries. Where our bier tasters lead other bars follow. Several new biers are always on their way and our drinks list is constantly changing to reflect this.

Every few months we feature a brewery of our choice with previous features from international breweries such as Beavertown, Weinstephan and Brooklyn and appearances from breweries closer to home from Fierce Brewery and Fyne ales. Changes in season also bring updates to our menu with additions for Oktoberfest, Christmas and al throughout the year.

Food

Bier may be in our name, but we’re also renowned for our food. Our staple is our famous ‘2 for 1’ pizzas, stone baked with a thin and crispy base and over 20 variations to choose from. Don’t worry if pizza isn’t your thing, we also have hotdogs, salads and nachos. We also now have vegan, vegetarian and Gluten Free pizza options, please speak to your server if you have any dietary requirements.

If you’re looking for something smaller we also have a great selection of bar snacks for pairing with beer in our ‘Bier Food’ section including goulash, meatballs, fried pickles, wings and nachos.

Reviewed in The List Food & Drinking guide

“Sitting quietly off Buchanan Street, the Bier Halle is easy enough to miss. Still, descend its dark stark stairwell and it soon reveals itself like some secret underground bunker, bustling with stylish professionals and students. As hinted at tin the name, the Bier Halle takes its inspiration from eastern European beer halls, offering an extensive array of ‘biers’, both bottled and draught, including frequent guests from all over the world. Another, perhaps even the main draw here though is, of course, the food. The menu offers well-thought-out bar snacks – bratwurst hot dogs, tapas and a variety of home-made soups and ciabatta sandwiches – the the ever-popular ‘2-4-1’ pizzas leading the charge. Substantial in size, these crackling, thin bases are piled with juicy fresh toppings – everything from barbecue meatballs to Stornoway black pudding – making their already reasonable price tag seem like one hell of a bargain.”
